The bottom horizontal line represents the chromosome, and the mapped markers are named along the top. Each marker name corresponds to a unique sequence of 1-300bp.
The diagonal lines indicate the exact location of each marker on the chromosome. (Markers which don’t have diagonal lines are second-rate markers, whose position is only approximate).
The markers are somewhat clustered along the chromosome. This reflects the fact that Alu elements (and hence the inter-Alu sequences which we used as markers) are not randomly scattered
