Cryptosporidium hominis

Studies on the genomic sequence of Cryptosporidium hominis were initiated by Prof. Gregory A. Buck, Director of the Center for The Study of Biological Complexity, School of Medicine|Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The aim of the project was to determine the entire genome sequence of the human specific strain of Cryptosporidium by shotgun cloning and sequencing.

The SMG group HAPPY map of the genome and the Cryptosporidium parvum DNA sequence were used as a framework to both align and orient the sequence contigs.

The results of the collaboration were published in Nature 431, 1107 - 1112, 2004.
