The field of Biotechnology is rapidly gaining popularity and momentum in the world today. It has become the quest of the students of The Center for Biotechnology, Anna University to popularize this field in the country. It is towards this goal that "Biotechcellence", a two day national level symposium, is being conducted in the first week of February annually. The basic objective of this symposium is to encourage students at the under graduate and post graduate level to present their ideas and research findings.  

As the name suggests, Biotechcellence is representative of the quest for excellence in the field of biotechnology.It stands for recognition of the fact that communication and exchange of idea is of prime importance in any scientific or technological enterprise.  

Since its inception in 1995, Biotechcellence has become bigger and better. It's reach has been widening and has attracted participation from colleges and research institutions spread all over the country. Sessions for presentation of papers included diverse areas such as:  

  • Molecular Biology
  • Genetic Engineering
  • Bioprocess Engg and Industrial Biotechnology
  • Animal and Plant Biotechnology
  • Computational Biology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Cell and Cancer Biology 
  • Environmental Biotechnology
Biotechcellence has been recieving an overwhelming support, both from the scientific community and industries.  

Industries have been sponsoring various sessions in this symposium. This is of mutual benefit to the industries and biotechnology in terms of better recognition and popularity among the research students.  

Verve is the souvenir, being released during Biotechcellence to commemorate the occasion. It contains abstracts of papers presented and articles from the participants, students, industrialists and scientists. It also includes advertisements from sponsoring industries. It is widely circulated among industries and educational institutions with interest in biotechnology.
